Time. We never seem to have enough of it.
Between a full-time job (some of us even have two), parenting or caregiving for our families, getting to all of life’s regular administration—bills, cleaning house, doing laundry—it can be tough to find enough time for exercise.
A simple way to sneak in some exercise without losing an hour to a workout is to use Google Maps.
In my own experience, humans are creatures of habit and we can get accustomed to doing things a certain way. We find ourselves eating the same food for breakfast, taking the same drive to work, or taking the same route on public transport (and sometimes we have no choice!). Before your next trip, consider checking your route with Google Maps first – using an active method of transportation just may be FASTER!
Google Maps has a handy feature that allows you to predict the time of your trip based on the method of transportation you choose to take, whether it’s driving, transit, walking or cycling.
Use it (in app form or the web browser) to check how long it might take for you to do routine activities, like grocery shopping in the neighbourhood, driving to the bank, visiting a friend or even getting to work. You might learn that driving there saves you only 3 minutes when you could otherwise walk there. I think we can all agree, most of the time, 3-5 minutes is negligible when we’re planning a trip.

This way, you can choose to sneak in a little heart-pumping active time without interrupting your schedule! And aren’t we all aiming for efficiency when it comes to running errands?
Granted, this isn’t a revolutionary idea and this tip works better for people living in urban areas where our trips are shorter and more localized, but hopefully it might encourage people in any community to rethink old habits and replace them with new.
